Casa Adobe, Santa Rosa, Costa Rica 2018
Cuidemos las Plantas (Let’s Take Care of the Plants), was a sixth-month teaching residency, from May to November 2018, at Casa Adobe in Santa Rosa, Costa Rica, as a part of the HNGR program at Wheaton College. The residency consisted of weekly classes for children from the surrounding neighborhood, led and designed by John Mark Daniel. The classes resulted in various artistic interventions in the Santa Rosa community. The classes culminated in three small-scale murals behind the neighborhood playground. The students took the initiative in deciding the theme of the murals, to take care of the environment for future generations. The murals show three scenes of floral silhouettes which depict children playing on a playground which remind us that taking care of our environment and taking care of future generations go hand-in-hand.
