Draper, Spray and Leaksville History Collage Murals

Eden, North Carolina 2019-2021

The Draper, Spray, and Leaksville history collage murals were painted between July 2019 and December 2021 to honor the histories of the three towns (Draper, Spray, and Leaksville) that voted to consolidate under the name ‘Eden’ in 1967.

The series began with the ‘Draper’ mural in the summer of 2019 as a one-week collage workshop imparted by John Mark Daniel for a group of children, who afterward helped paint the mural. Two years later in the summer of 2021, Daniel received an Artist Support Grant from the NC Arts Council to complete the next mural in the series, the ‘Spray’ mural. A group of local artists along with Daniel painted the ‘Spray’ mural. The same group of artists started the ‘Leaksville’ later in the fall of 2021, which Daniel helped complete in December of 2021. All designs are original collages by John Mark Daniel, sourced from digital archives (primarily leaksville.com). Each mural was kindly supported by the Eden Downtown Development Association.
